Nurturing Growth: Lessons from Seeds and Spirituality

THE MOST expensive mistake people make is spending years trying to fix themselves for a room that was never going to see them clearly.

They try to fit in by adapting to those in the room and dressing accordingly, though they don’t have the financial resources. Sit at a table only to be scrutinized and judged by their speech and comments. And although they may stand out and prove to have what it takes to be sitting there, they are not welcome.

Instead of competing and trying to fix themselves, reflection should be given to the greatest man who ever walked this earth—Jesus. He never tried to fit in with any group. He was on a mission to open the eyes of the blind, the ears of those deaf, cure the sick and educate the uneducated.

Jesus’ way is the best way to follow.

In our differences, we learn from each other. Having love allows for acceptance and deep reflection on the individual, as we are here to grow.

No one is perfect. And within our flaws or faults we [can] become creative.

On Sunday, June 21, during the morning, I looked at the plant pot that was 45 days or more since I planted some flower seeds purchased from the dollar store. A scripture recalled during my observation. I plant, Apollos watered, but God makes it grow.

As I planted according to the instructions that came with them, I said a little prayer. I patiently watched and watered as I kept in mind that too much of anything spoils growth. I question whether the seeds purchased were good, or am I being given an answer from the environment? An environment lived in for many years that has evoked some emotions; that has it not been the power to love—me, circumstances would have been different.

Though my mind suspects what the answer may be, I want to hear the voice of my Heavenly Father’s confirmation. So, I continued to observe.

My thoughts led me to read the verse. “I planted, Apollos watered, but God who makes it grow. So that neither is he that plants anything, nor is he that waters, but God that makes it grow. Now he that plants and he that waters are one, but each person will receive his reward according to his labor.” – First Corinthians 3:6.

To Jehovah we belong, and to him we are all one, and as the scripture states, each will be rewarded according to his or her labour. As each will be saved according to his or her life lived, for again it is stated in the scriptures, “Wife, how do you know but that you will save your husband?”

I ponder the verses of that scripture as I thought the spiritual game being played by those who have doubts about my experience. Again, I question my Creator. As I recall the illustrations about the Sower of the fine (good) seeds.

My thoughts draw me to read the account in verse 25 of Matthew 13. It reads: “But while they were asleep the enemy came and oversowed weeds.” I smile at myself. Surely if weeds were planted, they would have sprouted by now. As thoughts continued to evaluate thinking, any enemy of mine would have had to enter my home when I was away and uproot the seeds or, while asleep, overwater them with hot water killing the bulbs. And as thoughts swirled around my mind I thought of the next-door neighbor. Words thrown at me without cause.

Was this Jehovah’s answer to me? After all, he sees and hears all evil man does to others. “The words out of the mouth come out of the heart, and those things defile a man.” Matthews 15:18.

I ponder the difficulties in my life and know that my environment is partly the cause of my struggles, as growth often relies heavily on environment, given support or when in a supportive group.

As of this blog posting, now over 60 days since planting, I am still hoping that at least one of the bulbs planted will sprout. And I know that once I give up on even watering the pot, that’s when the Devil or the Lord will allow the seed to sprout. Both at each other to prove our faithfulness, as in the case of Job. -Job 2:2-3.

Therefore, I encourage you, my friends, do not give up.

For the time you choose to, that’s when your intended goal or desire is about to be realized. I have witnessed many who have given up on themselves because a doctor could not assist, absent family members and friends to share your troubles with and the pressures from some in authoritative positions. But knowing this may save you from a regrettable mistake. Those who have the Lord within will defeat those presumptuous in their wicked deeds.

Nothing is before the time of God’s choosing. Exercise patience. -James 5:7. Sometimes the things we desire are not really for us, and going ahead without divine assistance may be our downfall. James 5:10

Thanks for reading. Until next time, take care of yourselves and each other. Peace!
